About Us

NORAM Electrolysis Systems Inc. (NESI) is recognized as a global leader in the research and commercialization of advanced electrochemical systems.   Our technologies and products target the electrification and decarbonization of key industries through large-scale electrolysis plants.   From the processing of battery-grade lithium hydroxide to power electric vehicles and to enable grid-scale clean energy, to lithium-ion battery recycling, to carbon capture, we provide electrochemical solutions that address the challenges of climate change, waste management, and pollution reduction.

Why Join Us

Purpose-filled, challenging, and interesting work. That’s a central pillar of NESI.  You will be working at the edge of the cleantech ecosystem and in the increasingly important world of critical minerals.  All within a collaborative, fast-paced, growing environment with room for innovation and professional growth.  NESI is small, close-knit organization with the dynamics and trajectory of a cleantech startup but with the key advantage of direct association with both NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd. (parent) and BC Research (co-located lab).

Position Summary

The CAD Designer is responsible for developing detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, and technical documentation for NESI electrolysis systems, support equipment, and test apparatus. This role supports the engineering team across concept development, detailed design, prototyping, and commercial system deployment, ensuring designs are manufacturable, fully and accurately documented.

You’ll work at the intersection of electrochemical systems, fluid handling, gas evolution, and industrial equipment design—translating complex engineering concepts into buildable hardware.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical & System Design

  • Create 3D CAD models and assemblies for:
    • Electrolysis cells (stacks, electrodes, separators)Balance-of-plant systems (piping, tanks, pumps, gas handling)
    • Structural frames, enclosures, and industrial chemical skids
  • Produce detailed fabrication and assembly drawings
  • Produce 2D P&ID and PFD drawings (AutoCAD)
  • Translate PFDs and P&IDs into physical layouts and routed systems
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/A)

Product Development & Prototyping

  • Support prototype builds and pilot systems
  • Incorporate engineering changes (ECR/ECO) into CAD models
  • Maintain version control and configuration management of assemblies

Documentation & Standards

  • Generate:
    • General arrangement drawings (GAs)
    • Isometric piping drawings
    • Bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ASME, ISO, CSA where applicable)
  • Maintain drawing standards, templates, and libraries

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (mechanical, process, electrical, and controls engineers).
  • Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, and technical documentation.
  • Support vendor interactions and fabrication reviews

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field
  • 3–8+ years of industrial CAD design experience
  • Senior proficiency in CAD tools such as SOLIDWORKS (or similar parametric CAD platforms) and SOLIDWORKS PDM
    • Bonus: Proficient in AutoCAD Plant and/or SOLIDWORKS Simulation
  • Experience with:
    • Complex assemblies and large system layouts
    • Industrial equipment or process systems

Benefits

  • Extended Health Care (including prescription and vision plans)
  • Dental Care
  • Life Insurance
  • On-site Parking
